News from the Senior Center

We’re still closed but not out of touch

Hello Everyone.

Roberta Potter here thinking it's time to say hello and let you all know what is and is not happeing at the Senior Center. It's been a long time since we closed our doors in March of 2020 and it looks as though they'll be closed for some time longer. There are several barriers to our reopening even as other businesses and facilities around us begin to resume activities. Our space is small and not conducive to social distancing and frankily, we're all old and thus in a higer risk category than we might like to be. We were able to have an excellent ventilation system installed so we will be safer when we do open.

Quite a few people have called to inquire about our monthly foot clinics. We have contracted with Footcare By Nurses to do a monthly foot clinic here at the Senior Center. We're taking every known covid precaution so it is now by specific appointment only rather than first-come, first serve. The cost has gone up to $10.00 per visit but the Councl on Aging is subsidizing a much higher payment. The provider is a registered nurse, not a nail technician. Appointments are available on a bi-monthly basis. Call me at (413) 863-9357 if you'd like to sign up or find out more.

The Western Mass Food Bank's Brown Bag program is still going on. It's in the parking lot on the first Thursday of every month from 10:30 am to noon. If you are a low income senior and not signed up for this program, I can enroll you. The program provides a monthly bag of groceries to eligible seniors.

We also have access to some funds which can help pay for home repairs, especially those related to safety, for low to moderate income senior home owners. Grants run between $100 and $500

Please feel free to call me if I can help. The Senior Center telephone number is 413-863-9357 and I'm available Monday through Thursday from 10 am to 2 pm. The building, of course, is closed so I am occasionally working from home and you may get my voice mail. Please leave a message or you can e-mail me at coa@montague-ma.gov.
